Ghana reclaims title of largest gold producer in Africa

Ghana Regains Title as Africa’s Largest Gold Producer
Ghana has reportedly regained its title as Africa’s largest gold producer, thanks to a significant increase in gold production last year. According to Joshua Mortoti, Chairman of the Ghana Chamber of Mines, both large and small and medium-sized companies saw a significant increase in gold production in 2022.
Mortoti revealed that the country’s gold production rose from 2.8 million ounces in 2021 to 3.7 million ounces (105 tons) in 2022. He added that this increase was mainly provided by large-scale companies, which saw a 32 percent increase in gold production.
Ghana, which was once referred to as the “Golden Bay” in history, is renowned for its rich history in gold mining and is one of the continent’s largest gold producers, alongside the Republic of South Africa.
The news of Ghana’s increased gold production is expected to boost the country’s economy and further cement its position as a major player in the gold mining industry. The mining sector is a significant contributor to Ghana’s economic growth and job creation.
Furthermore, the increase in gold production is a positive development for the country, as it could lead to further investment in the mining industry and the creation of more jobs for citizens.
In conclusion, Ghana’s regained title as Africa’s largest gold producer is good news for the country, its people, and the mining industry. It is a testament to the country’s rich resources and the commitment of its mining companies to increase production and contribute to the national economy.
