Gidrán Armored Vehicles Showcase Impressive Capabilities in New Photos

The Gidrán controllers recently participated in a turret shooting exercise, showcasing the capabilities of the 12.7 mm M2HB heavy machine gun, as stated in a social media post by the 1st Armored Brigade. These Hungarian Gidráns are equipped with the ASELSAN SARP stabilized, remote-controlled turret, which can be armed with a 7.62 mm medium or 12.7 mm heavy machine gun along with a 40 mm automatic grenade launcher.

Additionally, the turret features a day and night camera system for target detection, a laser rangefinder, and a smoke grenade launcher system for added protection. The Hungarian Defense Forces have also acquired the ASELSAN SEDA-V acoustic shot detector to pinpoint the location of incoming fire for the Gidrán vehicles. Moreover, the vehicles can be outfitted with an automatic fire extinguishing system or a high-power winch for added functionality.

Manufactured by Nurol Makina in Türkiye, the Gidráns have additional electronic, communication, radar, and weapon systems integrated in Hungary. The Hungarian Defense Forces began receiving these vehicles in the spring of 2021, with 56 delivered so far out of the total 300 planned for procurement under the Defense and Military Development Program.

In related news, the Ministry of Defense and the Hungarian Defense Forces have commenced the third recruitment campaign, dubbed “Man to the Iron!” Candidates are invited to Székesfehérvár to learn how to operate the Gidrán combat vehicle. Successful applicants can expect a competitive starting salary, contracting fee, benefits package, and training opportunities.

The Defense Forces have previously recruited personnel for operating Lynxes in Hódmezővásárhely and the PzH 2000 self-propelled artillery in Tata as part of the recruitment campaign. This initiative aims to bolster the operational capabilities of the Hungarian military and enhance defense readiness.
