Judge rules against Giuliani in asset seizure case
In a hearing held in Manhattan, Judge Lewis Liman made a ruling against former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani. The ruling stated that Giuliani intentionally violated a court order by failing to provide the required information and evidence regarding his seized assets within the specified deadline for compensation he owed.
Judge Liman found Giuliani in contempt of court and stated that he would consider criminal sanctions at the conclusion of a case filed by two Georgia election officials. The case revolves around Giuliani’s non-compliance with court orders and the status of his assets, with the hearing scheduled to begin on January 16 in New York.
Furthermore, Giuliani faces a defamation lawsuit filed by Ruby Freeman and her daughter, Wandrea Arshaye Moss, who were involved in the 2020 presidential elections in Georgia. Giuliani had accused them of fraud in the ballot counting process, leading to their defamation lawsuit against him.
Giuliani admitted that Freeman and Moss had not committed fraud as he had claimed but argued that his statements were protected under freedom of expression. Despite this, a court found him guilty in August 2023 and ordered him to pay $148 million in compensation. Giuliani declared bankruptcy following this decision, resulting in the seizure of his valuable assets to cover the amount owed.
However, Giuliani now faces additional legal trouble as he has been accused of failing to surrender the seized assets despite the court order. A new lawsuit has been filed against him in connection to this issue.
