Giving 140 MPs: Results of 16-table output from Tanju Özcan to Kılıçdaroğlu

CHP Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu made a significant statement during the group meeting of his party yesterday. He boldly declared, “I say it clearly and explicitly. I will set up a table of 6 if necessary, but a table of 16.” This statement by Kılıçdaroğlu, which also emphasized Istanbul, garnered attention and sparked reactions.
The reactions to Kılıçdaroğlu’s statements have been a topic of discussion. CNN Türk correspondent Melike Görür provided details on the evaluation of these statements by the CHP.
During the group meeting, Kılıçdaroğlu took the podium for the second time since the election and delivered remarkable statements. He entered the group hall alongside CHP Group Chairman Özgür Özel, who has been emphasizing the need for change in recent days. Additionally, the new Group Deputy Chairman Burcu Köksal introduced Kılıçdaroğlu as “the hope of millions” before he took the stage.
One subject that received criticism was Kılıçdaroğlu’s proposal to grant a quota of deputies to three parties. Despite these criticisms, Kılıçdaroğlu expressed a message of alliance, stating, “I will set up the table of 6, not the table of 16.”
While the CHP has not provided any explanation for Kılıçdaroğlu’s statement, CHP Bolu Mayor Tanju Özcan made a post on his social media account. Özcan commented, “Our Chairman mentioned during the group meeting that if necessary, we will set up a 16 table instead of a 6 table.” He then proceeded to calculate the number of deputies allocated to four parties, expressing uncertainty about the accuracy of those figures.
Following his notable statements, Kılıçdaroğlu is scheduled to meet with the presidents of all 81 provinces today. The meeting, which will take place at CHP Headquarters at 12:00, aims to discuss provincial vote rates. Kılıçdaroğlu intends to offer instructions to improve performance in areas where fewer votes were received, emphasizing the need for ‘work’ among provincial heads.
In addition to these instructions, today’s meeting of provincial heads will address calls for ‘change’ and matters related to bylaw amendments.
It remains to be seen how Kılıçdaroğlu’s statements and the subsequent meetings with provincial heads will shape the future strategies of the CHP.
