Government Accelerates Budapest-Belgrade Railway Construction

The Hungarian Parliament has recently revealed that the government is designating certain projects related to the construction of the Budapest-Belgrade railway line as projects of national economic importance. It is projected that the railway line will be completed by 2025 according to Hungarian estimates, and by 2026 according to Serb estimates.
Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó has emphasized the significance of the Budapest-Belgrade railway line as a flagship of infrastructure investments in Central Europe, positioning Hungary as a leader in this area.
In a recent development, an additional HUF 5.4 billion (EUR 14.2M) has been allocated for the pre-completion of the reconstruction of the Szeged-Röszke section as part of the railway line. This allocation will increase the originally estimated cost of the project.
These efforts to advance the construction of the Budapest-Belgrade railway line underscore the commitment of the Hungarian government to enhancing transportation infrastructure and connectivity in the region.
