Governor of Tunceli announces street animal collection plan

In Tunceli, a province in Turkey with a population of at least 2 thousand street cats, efforts are being made to address the nutrition and neutering needs of these animals. The Governor’s Office, Municipal, Provincial Security Directorate, and Provincial Gendarmerie Command, along with animal lovers and volunteers, are all working together to ensure the well-being of these street cats.
A recent meeting chaired by Governor Bülent Tekbıyıkoğlu and Mayor Tekbıyıkoğlu focused on the welfare of street animals in the city. Attended by various officials and representatives from animal protection organizations, the meeting resulted in the decision to establish an ‘Animal Protection Board’ in order to address the issues surrounding street animals.
Governor Tekbıyıkoğlu emphasized the importance of creating a safe environment for these animals, stating, “We are going to establish a system that will not disrupt their natural lives. Street animals may appear docile, but they can pose a threat to public health, especially when their population increases. By implementing effective measures such as providing clean water, food, and medical care, we aim to reduce the number of street animals in our province and prevent injuries and accidents caused by them.”
The ongoing efforts in Tunceli reflect a commitment to animal welfare and responsible pet ownership. Through collaboration between authorities, animal rights organizations, and concerned citizens, the city aims to create a safer and more humane environment for its street animals.
