Grateful for Life: Kazakhstan Safely Evacuates Nearly 117,000 People
ASTANA – The floods in Kazakhstan have resulted in the evacuation of 116,949 people, with emergency officers working tirelessly to rescue citizens stuck in their homes. One emotional victim in the North Kazakhstan Region expressed heartfelt gratitude for being rescued, according to the Kazakh Ministry of Emergency Situations report on April 17.
The latest statistics show that currently, 6,950 people, including 3,113 children, remain in evacuation centers. Over 112,500 farm animals have been moved to safe locations, and 16,000 people have been able to return home. More than 9.8 million cubic meters of meltwater have been pumped out, and over 2.9 million bags and 1.4 million tons of inert material have been used in the rescue efforts. Water has been diverted from thousands of residential buildings and courtyards, with the hotline receiving 1,857 calls for assistance.
Despite the challenges, all involved services are working day and night to provide the necessary assistance to those affected by the floods.
In the midst of the crisis, there have been some heartwarming moments as well. Rescuers have welcomed newborns into their families, with Junior Sergeant Azamat Zhanasbayev, Askar Kusainov, and Ualikhan Zhumabekov celebrating the births of their children. These moments of joy serve as a reminder that life goes on, even in the face of adversity.
