Prime Minister Ünal Üstel Criticizes Netflix Series for Distorting Facts About Cyprus Peace Operation
Prime Minister Ünal Üstel has spoken out against a new Netflix series set to be released in September, which he claims distorts the facts surrounding the Cyprus Peace Operation. In a statement, Üstel expressed his disappointment with the portrayal of Turkey as an occupier and the propagation of Greek propaganda in the series.
According to Üstel, the Greek Cypriot Administration has been engaged in a decades-long campaign of disinformation and distortion against the Turkish Cypriots. He emphasized that the Turkish Cypriots have endured genocides and atrocities at the hands of the Greek Cypriots, and that their suffering should not be misrepresented in films for the sake of entertainment.
“We will not allow the just cause of the Turkish Cypriots to be diluted by false narratives and propaganda,” Üstel declared. He vowed to take all necessary measures to counter the misinformation spread by the Netflix series and other similar media outlets.
The Prime Minister also criticized the broadcasting platforms that approve and promote films based on lies, contrasting them with the truth-based films created by the Turkish Cypriots. He warned that the Turkish Cypriot government will closely monitor the response to their own films in order to ensure a fair and accurate representation of their history and struggles.
