Green activists stage protest at Samsung battery factory in Hungary

Opposition activists from the green party LMP have taken a bold step in their fight against the Samsung battery plant located in Göd, north of Budapest. In a recent development, the activists have shut off the entrances to the factory in a bid to force compliance with a court ruling regarding the validity of Samsung SDI’s environmental permit.

Antal Csárdi, the deputy group leader of LMP, addressed the press at the factory on Monday, urging the government to intervene and ensure that the plant reduces its capacity by over 98 percent. Despite the court ruling, both the environmental protection office and the local government office have failed to take any action in this regard.

It is clear that LMP is determined to hold the plant accountable for breaching environmental regulations, with the ultimate goal of protecting the health and well-being of the Hungarian public. Csárdi accused the government of prioritizing the interests of multinational companies over the welfare of its citizens.

Recent reports have revealed the presence of harmful chemicals in the water near the Samsung factory, further underscoring the need for immediate action to address the environmental concerns posed by the plant. LMP’s continued efforts to enforce the court’s ruling signal a growing determination to hold corporations accountable for their environmental impact.
