Greenhouse Success: Husband-Wife Team Sells Produce Blindly to Customers

Hasan and Aysel Seydi, a couple living in Ordu, have found a unique way to sell the lettuce they produce in their own greenhouses. Instead of waiting at a market or store, they simply leave their lettuce on the roadside for customers to purchase at their own convenience.

The couple, Hasan (74) and Aysel (69), have been growing and selling lettuce and other vegetables for years in the district of Altınordu Kayabaşı. They harvest their fresh produce and line them up on a wheelbarrow next to a box for customers to leave their payment. Customers can choose their desired lettuce, leave the money in the box, and sometimes come back to pay later.

Hasan Seydi explained that they choose to sell their products in this manner to allow people to benefit from fresh and locally grown produce. He expressed trust in the customers by saying, “I trust people to pay for what they eat. I have no trouble with this system.” Aysel Seydi added that they used to sell their products in the market, but now prefer selling on the side of the road for convenience.

Customers, like Kadir Ozbucak, appreciate the trust-based system and describe it as a positive and unique event. Ozbucak mentioned that such practices are common in European countries and commended the Seydi couple for their approach.

The Seydi couple’s roadside lettuce stand is not only a symbol of trust between producers and customers but also a testament to the benefits of locally grown, fresh produce. This innovative way of selling lettuce not only benefits the community but also promotes a sense of responsibility and honesty among consumers.
