Police Seize Weapons and Arrest Suspects in Istanbul Operation
The Istanbul Sancaktepe District Police Department has carried out a successful operation in Maltepe, Istanbul, seizing multiple weapons and arresting several suspects. The police stopped a car on 1 May after they suspected that something was amiss. Three people were in the vehicle, all identified as FY, BFK, and YA. The police apprehended the three and found four unlicensed weapons in the car.
Further searches of the suspects resulted in three arrests and the seizure of more weapons. The police issued a court order and searched the Maltepe Gülsuyu Neighborhood, where they apprehended three more individuals: YT, FEA, and UK. The police found 52 guns and 21 gun boxes in the suspects’ residence address.
All of the detained suspects were taken to the Sancaktepe District Police Department for interrogation. On 2 May, they were transferred to the Anatolian Palace of Justice in Kartal, Istanbul, to face charges of committing a crime under “6136 SKM.” All of the arrested suspects were sent to prison pending further investigations.
No information is available regarding the origins of the weapons or the nature of the crime committed. The successful operation saw Istanbul police remove numerous weapons from circulation, improving public safety in the city.
