Güzelyurt begins neutering stray animals in project

Neutering procedures at Güzelyurt Municipality Animal Rehabilitation Center

The Güzelyurt Municipality Animal Rehabilitation Center has recently initiated neutering procedures in collaboration with the Turkish Cypriot Veterinary Association and NETAP, an organization dedicated to animal protection. This initiative aims to help control the population of stray animals and improve their overall health and well-being.

Thanks to the support of Güzelyurt Municipality, the neutering process, which will span over three days, includes not only sterilization but also vaccinations, internal and external parasite treatments, and blood tests when necessary. Veterinarian Berna Adataş shared with BRT that approximately 5,600 stray animals have already been sterilized as part of this project, making it the most comprehensive effort of its kind in the country.

Adataş expressed her satisfaction that the project has expanded to Güzelyurt after successful implementations in Kyrenia, Nicosia, and Iskele. She highlighted that the sterilization of stray dogs will be conducted over two days, while the sterilization of stray cats will be performed on the third day.

This ongoing project underscores the importance of responsible pet ownership and the significance of animal welfare in the community. Through collaborative efforts and continued support, initiatives like these can help create a safer and healthier environment for both animals and humans alike.
