Gyurcsány accuses Orbán of being Hungary’s first pro-paedophile PM
The leader of the opposition Democratic Coalition (DK), Ferenc Gyurcsány, has called on Democrats to cooperate in the fight against Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s regime. However, he noted that not everyone in the opposition shares the same view on this cooperation.
Gyurcsány emphasized the importance of unity within the opposition, stating that those who try to fight both the government and the rest of the opposition are setting themselves up for defeat. He also warned against employing civil activists over party-organized teams, as this could pave the way for the government’s victory.
In his assessment of the past year, Gyurcsány described 2023 as a difficult year for the world and “the most rubbish year” for Hungary. He highlighted disagreements between the government and democrats on the reasons for the unbalanced international order.
On domestic politics, Gyurcsány emphasized the importance of a civic approach over a Christian one, as advocated by the ruling Fidesz party. He criticized Fidesz for aiming to obtain and maintain absolute power, describing their system as unconstitutional.
Gyurcsány also expressed concerns about recent revelations of child abuse by individuals close to the government, accusing the highest-ranking state officials of attempting to cover up these crimes. He condemned this behavior as tarnishing the reputation of Viktor Orbán’s regime, labeling the prime minister as the leader of dishonesty.
In response to Gyurcsány’s speech, ruling Fidesz accused him of being the leader of the “dollar left” and emphasized their refusal to take responsibility for their actions. They criticized Gyurcsány for seeking power at all costs and accused him of causing a crisis during his time as prime minister.
The political tensions between the opposition and ruling party continue to escalate, with both sides presenting contrasting views on the direction Hungary should take. As the country heads towards the next election, the clash between these political forces is likely to intensify.
