Half of Us campaign receives support from Minister Institution

Minister Murat Kurum, who serves as the Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change in Turkey, has been touring the district of Istanbul to meet with citizens ahead of the 14 May elections. During his visits to the districts of Kadıköy, Ataşehir, Maltepe and Kartal, Kurum distributed toys to children and greeted locals on the streets. The minister highlighted the government’s work to address the impact of the February 6 earthquake, which affected 14 million citizens across 11 provinces. He noted that the country is constructing 151,000 independent sections as part of the largest-ever housing mobilisation after an earthquake, which will be delivered to beneficiaries over the next year. The goal is to construct 319,000 houses initially, followed by 650,000. Prioritising the earthquake zone, the government is focusing on 1.5 million houses in Istanbul. Additionally, Istanbul is undergoing major transformation to better protect citizens from potential natural disasters or earthquakes. Kurum noted how the government has started the “Half of Us” campaign, through which 666,000 independent departments have already applied to receive support from the project, designed to provide safe and modern housing to citizens. The initiative includes the construction of 12,000 homes in the city’s Fikirtepe neighbourhood, with a total of 93,000 homes under construction across the city. Kurum urged citizens to continue to provide support for the current government and highlighted the importance of progress for Turkey.
