Hamas Ready to Implement Ceasefire Agreement Following Talks with Qatar and Egypt
In a recent development, Hamas has stated its readiness to immediately implement the agreed ceasefire, following a meeting with Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani and Egyptian Intelligence Director Abbas Kamil in Doha.
The Hamas delegation, led by Khalil al-Hayye, emphasized their commitment to the ceasefire plan proposed by US President Joe Biden on May 31, Security Council resolution 2735, and agreements made on July 2. They rejected any new conditions being imposed on the ceasefire plan and praised the efforts of the mediators to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza, as well as exchange prisoners and withdraw the Israeli army from the region.
President Biden had announced a new ceasefire proposal in three stages on May 31, but Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claimed that the proposal was different from the one prepared by Israel. Netanyahu demanded additional conditions, including the continuation of Israeli occupation of certain key border crossings and corridors in Gaza.
Hamas remains committed to the ceasefire agreement and calls for a peaceful resolution to the ongoing conflict in Gaza. The support and mediation efforts of countries such as Qatar and Egypt are crucial in achieving lasting peace and stability in the region.
