Lewis Hamilton Clinches Pole Position for Hungarian Grand Prix
Seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton has secured his 104th career pole position in qualifying for the Formula One Hungarian Grand Prix. The Mercedes driver will start from the front row alongside Red Bull’s reigning champion Max Verstappen. McLaren’s Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri will line up behind them on the second row.
The qualifying session also saw impressive performances from Zhou Guanyu, who set the fifth fastest time for Alfa Romeo, and Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc in sixth place. Valtteri Bottas, driving for Alfa Romeo, took seventh position. Fernando Alonso qualified eighth for Aston Martin, followed by Sergio Perez of Red Bull and Nico Hulkenberg of Haas to complete the top 10.

The Hungarian Grand Prix, which is scheduled for Sunday, will take place at the Hungaroring circuit. This 4.381-kilometer track will see drivers complete 70 laps, covering a total distance of 306.663 kilometers.
In other news, the contract to host the Formula One Hungarian Grand Prix has been extended until 2032. The announcement was made by Adam Schmidt, the state secretary for sports, F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali, and Zsolt Gyulay, the chief executive of Hungaroring Sport. The extension is conditional on a full upgrade for the Hungaroring by the 2026 race.
The Hungarian Grand Prix has been a part of the F1 calendar since 1986, making the Hungaroring the second oldest track after Monza to host races without interruptions. The upgrades will include improvements to the pitlane, paddock building, main grandstand, and fan zone. The aim is to enhance the overall experience for fans attending the race, with ticket sales for the 2023 Grand Prix expected to attract over 300,000 spectators.
