Harvard University Graduates Discuss Human Capital Development in Economic Modernization Meeting in Kazakhstan
Graduates from Harvard University recently held a discussion on human capital development as it relates to economic modernization in Kazakhstan at the Kazakhstan Institute for Strategic Studies (KazISS). The meeting, reported by the institute’s press service, was a platform for experts to share insights and ideas on improving the quality of human capital in the country.
During the meeting, KazISS Director Yerkin Tukumov emphasized the vital role of human capital in economic development and stressed the need for increased funding for science and education. Tukumov pointed out that Kazakhstan currently allocates only 0.12% of its GDP to science funding and aims to increase this to 1% by 2025, in line with international standards.
Tukumov also highlighted the importance of developing research universities, providing equal educational opportunities for both urban and rural youth, and ensuring highly qualified personnel as crucial factors in human capital development. According to him, these efforts are essential for the economic and social development of the country.
Healthcare expert Ardak Amangeldiyev underscored the significance of having a healthy and skilled workforce for contributing to the economic and social development of the nation. He shared that healthcare funding in Kazakhstan has increased significantly in recent years and emphasized the need to align this with the standards of developed countries.
Other speakers at the meeting, including Nurken Urmantayev, Kuanysh Yergaliev, Yerken Turganbayev, and Galym Ussen, offered their perspectives on the multifaceted nature of human capital and the various elements that contribute to its development. They stressed the importance of acquiring practical skills, instilling a strong corporate culture, and focusing on leadership development in Kazakhstan’s universities.
The discussions aimed to shed light on the complexities of human capital development and identify areas for improvement to strengthen Kazakhstan’s position in the global talent race. By addressing these issues, the experts believe that Kazakhstan can enhance the quality of its human capital, which will ultimately drive economic growth and enhance its competitiveness on the world stage.
