Apples from Kayseri’s Yeşilhisar District Exported to England, France, and Russia
Apples grown in the Yeşilhisar district of Kayseri are making their way to international markets, with exports reaching countries such as England, France, India, Egypt, Syria, and Russia. Local apple producer Latif Öztürk highlighted the significance of these exports, especially to Russia. He mentioned that a considerable amount of the fruit produced in the region is sent overseas.
The harvest season for apples in the Kayadibi District of Yeşilhisar has officially begun. Starting in September each year, the harvest typically lasts for around one month. The apples undergo regular inspections by engineers from exporting companies before being shipped off to more than 30 countries around the world.
These exports play a vital role in supporting the livelihoods of the locals in the region. Öztürk emphasized that the apples produced in the area are of superior quality compared to those from other regions. He stated that the harvesting process is currently underway, with pruning starting after the leaves begin to fall.
Highlighting the meticulous care taken in apple production, Öztürk explained the various processes involved throughout the year. The apples undergo assessments for quality, color, and durability, with the region’s unique climate and geographic location playing a crucial role in maintaining the fruit’s quality.
After the apples are harvested, they are stored in icehouses where packaging and preparation for export take place. With a general harvest of 100-110 thousand tons in the region, the Kayadibi District alone is expected to yield over 50 thousand tons. The district boasts a variety of apple types, including scarlet, jeromine, starkrimson, classic starkrimson, golden, reinders, delicious, and Arabian girl.
Overall, the apple exports from Yeşilhisar in Kayseri continue to thrive, providing a substantial economic boost to the region while showcasing the exceptional quality of Turkish produce to the world.
