Harvesting 17 Cereal Varieties Planted for November Adaptation Trial
Adaptation Trial Plots of 17 Grain Types Project Completed in Cyprus
The Adaptation Trial Plots of 17 Grain Types Project, initiated by the Cyprus Turkish Farmers Union, has been successfully completed. The harvest of the adaptation products took place in the Alaniçi village.
Mehmet Nizam, the President of the Cyprus Turkish Farmers Union, spoke to BRT about the project and highlighted that this was the first project of its kind in 80 years. He expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the project and its potential benefits for the agricultural sector in Cyprus.
Nizam explained that in November, 17 types of certified seeds were planted, specifically in Alaniçi, a region in Mesarya that received the least rainfall. He emphasized that wheat production was remarkably productive this year.
During the project, 100 square meters of each grain type were cultivated, and the resulting products will now be weighed and evaluated to determine their yield and adaptation process. Nizam also mentioned that the competent authorities will be informed about the success of the completed adaptation.
The Adaptation Trial Plots of 17 Grain Types Project is a significant step towards enhancing agricultural practices in Cyprus. The successful completion of this project will contribute to boosting the agricultural sector’s productivity and sustainability.
