High Demand for 400 Lira per Kilo Product Across Turkey

Villagers in the Çemişgezek district of Tunceli have been busy producing a traditional delicacy known as “orcik” made from grapes and walnuts. This unique flavor has garnered a lot of attention, with demand coming from all over Turkey.

For years, citizens in Çemişgezek have been supplementing their family incomes by making orcik using walnuts and grapes. The process involves harvesting the ingredients from gardens at specific times of the day, cracking the walnuts, removing their cores, cleaning the grapes, boiling them in cauldrons, stringing the walnuts, dipping them in grape must, and drying them in the sun.

The Çemişgezek orcik is produced using traditional methods without any additives, making it a sought-after product. It is being sold for 300-400 lira per kilo. Saray İnce, a villager involved in the production, mentioned that the process of making orcik is difficult and tiring.

As winter preparations continue in the district, İnce stated, “People from all over Turkey are reaching out to us, asking for orcik. We keep some for our own consumption and sell the rest to meet the demand.”

The unique and labor-intensive process of making orcik has captured the interest of many, leading to a growing demand for this traditional delicacy from Çemişgezek.
