Historians in Kazakhstan Meet to Deepen Understanding of National History
Kazakhstan’s National Congress of Historians recently took place in Astana, bringing together 300 representatives from the scientific community, including historians, researchers, and public figures. The forum, chaired by State Counselor Erlan Karin, focused on advancing historical research in Kazakhstan and exploring new archaeological discoveries and archival findings.
During the congress, discussions revolved around the preparation of a major academic work titled “History of Kazakhstan from Ancient Times to the Present Day,” which involved the collaboration of over 250 scholars. Karin highlighted the importance of broadening the understanding of Kazakhstan’s rich history, emphasizing the nation’s role as the cradle of ancient nomadic statehood and a center of unique nomadic civilization.
The forum’s plenary session and working sections covered various topics such as current methods of analysis, systematization, and the circulation of discoveries in archaeology, ethnography, ethnology, historical geography, and research in foreign archival collections. Participants also stressed the need to expand research on archaeological and historical-cultural monuments, improve museum work and local history, and enhance textbooks and teaching methods in history.
Overall, the National Congress of Historians served as a valuable platform for scholars and experts to exchange ideas, share findings, and contribute to the ongoing study and appreciation of Kazakhstan’s diverse and fascinating history.
