Historically Low Temperatures Recorded in May’s First Days in Multiple Countries
Record-Breaking Cold Temperatures Reported across the World in May
May is traditionally a month of warmer weather, but this year seems to be breaking the mold. Several countries across the world are reporting some of their coldest May days ever recorded.
One example is the Australian capital, Canberra, where last week was reported as the coldest in over 23 years, with snow and hail falling. In another Australian city, Sydney, several flights were canceled due to the unpredictable weather and strong winds. The temperature dropped to +7.1 degrees on the hill of the Sydney Observatory on Sunday evening, the lowest May temperature recorded in the city since 1999.
Italy also experienced extremely cold weather, with the country recording its coldest May day since 1957. The temperature dropped to a low that hasn’t been seen in 62 years.
India, which is known to have hot weather in May, has also been experiencing record-breaking cold temperatures. New Delhi’s temperature dropped to +15.8 degrees, one of the coldest days recorded since 1901. The Indian city of Chandigarh also recorded the lowest May temperature in over eight years, at +17.3 degrees.
It’s quite unusual to experience such low temperatures in May, and many are questioning whether this is a sign of climate change or simply a weather anomaly. Regardless of the cause, it’s important for people across the world to stay aware of the changing weather patterns and be prepared for any unexpected weather events.
