In a statement released through the UN Peace Force Spokesperson, Holguin emphasized the importance of transforming the difficulties of the past into opportunities for a sustainable future.
During her week-long visit, Holguin met with various stakeholders including political parties, mayors, chambers of commerce, journalists, religious leaders, unions, think tanks, and civil society representatives. She also engaged with the two leaders on the island to better understand the main challenges and opportunities.
Holguin expressed her commitment to finding common ground that would bring the two parties closer to a sustainable solution. She highlighted the resilience of societies and the necessity of hope in creating a better future. Holguin emphasized the importance of seizing individual and collective opportunities for change, noting that this could pave the way for a sustainable future for all Cypriots.
As Holguin prepares to leave the island, she remains determined to continue her efforts to fulfill the request of the UN Secretary-General in the remaining months. She believes that by learning from the lessons of the past and working towards solutions that benefit all, a brighter future for Cyprus is within reach.
