Holiday Cheer for Kids in Foster Care

Cooperation and Collaboration for Child Protection in Hungary

Attila Fülöp, the Secretary of State for Welfare Policy of the Ministry of Interior in Hungary, recently spoke at a Christmas party in Szeged, southern Hungary, for children in state care and highlighted the importance of cooperation and collaboration in making the lives of these children easier. He emphasized that the Ágota Foundation, which was launched to support these children, has been receiving support from a wide range of social actors and business associations.

Fülöp mentioned that thanks to the cooperation of 17,000 ministry employees, almost 7,000 young people living in state care received personalized Christmas presents. He urged the children to believe that they have the support of a caring community and to trust in themselves and their helpers.

The Christmas celebration, attended by around a thousand children in state care from 13 counties, was organized by the Ágota Foundation and the Saint Ágota Child Protection Service. With support from over fifty donors, these children received personalized Christmas gifts, and awards were also presented to the organization’s staff and volunteers.

The Ágota Foundation is a non-profit, non-governmental organization that aims to provide professional, moral, material, and programmatic support to children and young people. It supports child protection through specific methodologies, expert advice, training, and experiential programs and individual assistance.

One of the most important events organized by the Ágota Foundation is the ÁGOTA Camp, which is held every summer and offers children an opportunity to relax, experience unconditional acceptance, and build a sense of community. The organization has been making a positive impact on the lives of thousands of children in state care for over two decades.

The Bishop of Szeged-Csanád, László Kiss-Rigó, also spoke at the event, emphasizing the importance of solidarity and support for those who are suffering, especially during the holiday season.

Overall, the collaborative efforts of the Ágota Foundation, the Ministry of Interior, and various business associations have created a positive impact on the lives of children in state care in Hungary, providing them with a sense of community and support during the holiday season and beyond.
