Honoring the Memory of Martyr Guard Uğur Gölçek
The Istanbul Police Department held a ceremony at the Vatan Street campus to honor the martyr guard, Uğur Gölçek. The event was attended by Istanbul Governor Davut Gul, Provincial Police Chief Selami Yildiz, 1st Army Commander Gen. Metin Tokel, Provincial Gendarmerie Commander Major General Yusuf Kenan Topcu, Anatolian Courthouse Chief Public Prosecutor Zafer Koç, and other colleagues.
During the ceremony, Police Chief Yildiz expressed condolences to the family of the martyr guard and emphasized the importance of their sacrifice for the nation. He stated that the Police Organization will continue to work tirelessly for the peace and security of the country.
Following the speeches, participants observed a moment of silence in front of the martyr’s body draped in the Turkish flag and offered prayers. The body was then carried by a ceremonial procession to the Fatih Mosque for the funeral prayer.
In a related development, another suspect was apprehended in Bağcılar in connection with the attack that led to the martyrdom of Uğur Gölçek. The investigation into the incident is ongoing, with multiple suspects detained for their alleged involvement.
On April 2, Uğur Gölçek succumbed to injuries sustained in an armed attack while performing identity checks in the Century Quarter. The suspects responsible for the attack, identified as B.Ç. (19), RY (24), A.Ö. (27), and K.Ö. (31), were subsequently captured in Bağcılar.
The ceremony and the ongoing investigation underscore the bravery and sacrifice of those who serve in law enforcement, as well as the resolve of authorities to uphold peace and security in the region.
