How a Woman Became Successful Without Ever Stepping Foot in the Shop

Remziye Cankıran: A Tire Shop Owner Who Beat Cancer
Remziye Cankıran’s journey in the tire industry began in 1992 when she started working as a salesperson in a tire shop in Edirne. After years of experience in the rubber industry, she found herself unemployed in 2010. Determined not to give up, Cankıran decided to open her own tire shop with the support of her wife, who was also in the automotive industry as an auto electrician.
Starting off by selling tires only, Cankıran later expanded her business to include tire repairs due to increasing competition in the market. In 2013, she invested in disassembly equipment, repair tools, jacks, and balancing equipment to enhance her services. Despite running the operation alone until 2016, Cankıran faced a new challenge when she was diagnosed with breast cancer in the same year.
With determination and the support of her community, Cankıran continued running her business while undergoing chemotherapy. Her tire shop not only provided her with a source of income but also served as a motivation to fight cancer. After a two-year battle, Cankıran emerged victorious and returned to work with a newfound strength and resilience.
Reflecting on her journey, Cankıran emphasized the importance of respecting oneself and one’s work. Despite facing initial challenges and prejudices in the male-dominated industry, she earned the respect and support of her fellow industrial tradesmen. Cankıran’s story is a testament to the power of perseverance, hard work, and the unwavering support of the community. Today, she not only dismantles tires but also sets an example for others in the industry with her determination and success.
