Hungarian Kitesurfer Tamás Deák Sets New Record at Lake Balaton Race
Hungarian kitesurfer Tamás Deák made headlines on July 6th by setting a new record at the Keszthely-Balatonkenese speed race, held on the western and northern shores of Lake Balaton. Deák, a multiple Hungarian champion kitesurfer, completed the 80-kilometer distance in just 1 hour and 21 minutes on a hydrofoil type kitesurf board, breaking the previous record by 15 minutes.
The race, which was originally organized for sailors back in 1921, now includes various water sports equipment. Participants, including Deák, must confirm their departure and arrival times with a stamp at the railway stations in Keszthely and Balatonkenese, a tradition that has been maintained throughout the years.
Deák, who holds the absolute time record with a speed of 57.4 km/h, expressed his passion for innovation, speed, and technology. Two years ago, he was preparing for the 2024 Olympics in formula kite, but his focus shifted to kitesurfing while managing his software company, Kameleo. This record-breaking achievement was Deák’s first attempt at the distance, highlighting his talent and dedication to the sport.
