Hungarian Charity Initiates Massive Aid Effort for Syrian Christians

The Hungarian Charity Service of the Order of Malta is embarking on a significant aid program to support the daily lives of Christian communities in Syria. In an announcement made by the head of International Relations of the organization, Dániel Solymár stated that they will be providing support to nearly 500 Christian monks, priests, and church communities until autumn 2025.
“This is a rare form of development – this time for the survival of church communities,” Solymár emphasized.
The aid program aims to not only support Christianity in the Middle East but also create opportunities for a new beginning in Syria by assisting the country’s population and returning refugees. The presence of the Hungarian Charity Service of the Order of Malta in Syria dates back 25 years, and the organization has been actively involved in humanitarian efforts in various regions, including remote areas in Asia, South America, and Africa.
Syria, a country characterized by ethnic and religious diversity, has faced political instability since gaining independence in 1946. The ongoing civil war, which started in 2011, has gradually decreased in intensity due to the defeat of the Islamic State, but the situation remains fragile.
In collaboration with the Hungary Helps Agency, the Hungarian Charity Service of the Order of Malta recently delivered nearly 10 tons of aid and €100,000 to church and charity partners in Lebanon and Syria. This partnership underscores Hungary’s commitment to supporting humanitarian efforts in the region.
As the Hungarian Charity Service of the Order of Malta continues its aid initiatives in Syria, the organization remains dedicated to providing assistance to those in need and promoting stability and recovery in the war-torn country.
