Hungarian Cinematographer’s Film Set for U.S. Release
The Iron Claw Starring Zac Efron, Photographed by Hungarian Cinematographer Mátyás Erdély to be Released in U.S. Cinemas
Mátyás Erdély, the Oscar-winning cinematographer of Son of Saul, has photographed The Iron Claw, which stars former High School Musical star, Zac Efron. The film is set to be screened in U.S. cinemas from December 22, as reported by Hungarian Nation.
The Iron Claw tells the true story of two wrestlers, the Von Erich brothers. The film follows the rise and fall of this famous wrestling family and stars Zac Efron as popular 1980s wrestler Kevin Von Erich, and Jeremy Allen White (The Bear) as his brother Kerry.
The sports drama, shot for 24 Studios, was written and directed by Sean Durkin, who also collaborated with Mátyás Erdély, the Kossuth Prize-winning cinematographer of the Oscar-winning Son of Saul, on the film The Nest.
A trailer for The Iron Claw has recently been released, generating anticipation for its upcoming release on December 22.
Mátyás Erdély spoke to Magyar.film.hu about his experience working with directors and specifically highlighted his work with László Nemes Jeles, director of the Academy Awards Winner, Son of Saul. “During the pre-production, shooting, and post-production of Saul, I felt that what he was doing was amazing: the vision with which he set about this film, and the way he got it through the financing system as a first-time filmmaker. I admired all of these things. I feel like I have really deepened my relationship with László,” emphasized the cinematographer.
Mátyás Erdély and László Nemes Jeles met in 2004, on the set of Before Dawn, directed by Bálint Kenyeres, and their first collaboration was the short film With a Little Patience (Patience) directed in 2007. Their collaboration has been met with critical acclaim, earning numerous prestigious awards.
The Iron Claw is sure to spark excitement with audiences, drawing attention to the remarkable talents of Mátyás Erdély and the captivating storytelling of director Sean Durkin.
