
Hungarian Community in Transylvania Demands Respect from Future Romanian President

The Hungarians of Transylvania are looking for respect and support from the next president of Romania to help them preserve and strengthen their identity. Hunor Kelemen, the President of the Democratic Alliance of Hungarians Romania (RMDSZ), expressed this sentiment at a campaign event held in Miercurea Ciuc alongside the Romanian presidential candidate, Crin Antonescu.
Kelemen expressed his confidence in Antonescu, emphasizing the importance of his visit to Szeklerland, which he described as a sign of respect and openness. He highlighted the crucial role of the joint candidate of the governing coalition in defeating extremist candidates in the upcoming presidential election.
Kelemen stressed the significance of maintaining Romania’s position on the western side and improving Romanian-Hungarian relations. He noted the strength of the Hungarian community in Transylvania and the need for respect and recognition from the President of the Republic.
Antonescu, in turn, emphasized his commitment to Europe, identity, and traditions, as well as the importance of guaranteeing the rights of all citizens, especially minorities. He acknowledged the efforts of the Hungarian community in preserving their identity and traditions.
The event was also attended by the President of the Harghita County Council, Barna Botond Bíró, who emphasized the importance of protecting investments and common values. He expressed confidence that Antonescu would be a unifying president for Romania.
Overall, the Hungarians in Transylvania are looking towards the next president of Romania with hope for respect, support, and unity that will help them preserve their identity and strengthen their community.
