Hungarian Film Day: A Celebration of Hungarian Cinema
Hungarian Film Day is approaching on 30 April, and cinephiles are gearing up to celebrate the outstanding filmmakers and acting talent that have left a lasting legacy in the country. This day holds special significance as it marks the anniversary of the public premiere of the first Hungarian film, A Táncz (The Dance), back in 1901.
Since 2018, the Hungarian Film Day has been a time to honor the rich history of Hungarian cinema while also showcasing contemporary filmmaking talent. The event is a collaboration between the National Film Institute, TV stations, streaming providers, and cinemas, who come together to highlight Hungarian films across the country.
Káel Csaba, the Government Commissioner for the Development of the Motion Picture Industry and President of the National Film Institute, emphasized the importance of Hungarian films in our lives. He mentioned that the Hungarian Film Day has quickly become a tradition, drawing more and more people each year to celebrate the country’s cinematic achievements.
One of the best ways to celebrate Hungarian Film Day is by visiting the Urania National Film Theatre, which will be screening a variety of films with English subtitles for foreign audiences. Some of the featured films include “Kalman’s Day,” “Pelican Blue,” “Semmelweis,” “Six Weeks,” “Explanation for Everything,” and “All About the Levkoviches.”
Each of these films offers a unique perspective on Hungarian culture, history, and society, providing viewers with a glimpse into the diverse world of Hungarian cinema. Tickets for the screenings are priced at HUF 2,300 for regular admission and HUF 1,800 for students, pensioners, and teachers.
