Hungarian Food Labeling a Success in Romania

Romanian food products labeled in Hungarian make a marketing trend. It was reported by the Chronicle that labeling food products manufactured in Romania in Hungarian is becoming a common practice, and Romanian companies are also following suit.
In the past, consumer protection fines were imposed in Covasna (Kovászna) County for Hungarian labels, but now it has become a good practice in Romania. The article highlights that food labeled in Hungarian is sold at higher prices in shops, which may explain why companies are adopting this method. The author even asked food producers about this trend.
Several examples of Romanian companies using Hungarian labels alongside products from Hungary and Szeklerland were provided in the article. For instance, “Csárdás” salami, produced by Cris-Tim, and “family moments” dry pasta, produced by MP Baneasa-Paste are both being marketed with Hungarian labels in Romania. “Madarasi Székely” cheese, produced by Bomilact Madaras Ltd., also bears Hungarian labeling, with a Romanian-language description on a sticker placed on the product.
According to Loránd Bogács, the manager of Bomilact Madaras Ltd., the Hungarian labeling is aimed at appealing to Hungarian customers in Transylvania. They intend to sell products labeled in Hungarian in Transylvanian shops, while those labeled in Romanian will be sold beyond the Carpathians.
Another example mentioned is the “Székely falat” (“Szekler bite”) brand sold in Mega Image stores with the logo of Authentic Meat Ltd. Nicoleta Ilas, commercial director, stated that the quality, rather than the label, is what attracts customers to their products.
Zoltán Kovács, co-owner of Artimpex Kft., also confirmed that all their products are labeled in Romanian and Hungarian and are sold in shops beyond the Carpathians. According to him, Hungarian inscription signifies quality for customers.
The use of Hungarian labels on Romanian food products has proven to be successful in marketing these products to a wider audience. It appears that these labels are attracting consumers and have become part of a thriving marketing trend.
