Hungarian Foreign Minister Blames EU Leaders for Trump’s Tariffs
The European economy is once again facing the consequences of US tariffs, as Brussels bureaucrats are being criticized for their inaction in negotiation efforts. According to Péter Szijjártó, the minister of foreign affairs and trade, the European Commission has failed to prevent the imposition of tariffs due to their incompetence.
Szijjártó pointed out that the election of Donald Trump in November 2024 signified a shift towards a more protectionist economic policy, including the possibility of raising tariffs. Despite this known risk, Brussels failed to take any proactive measures or initiate negotiations with the US.
“Now, everyone is lamenting the impact of US tariffs on the European economy. But the real question is, where was Brussels during this time? Where were the well-paid bureaucrats of the European Commission?” Szijjártó questioned.
The lack of action from Brussels has left the European economy vulnerable to the consequences of US tariffs, highlighting the need for stronger leadership and proactive measures in trade negotiations. The failure to address this issue has resulted in a costly mistake for the European economy.
