Hungarian Government Celebrates Growth in Number of Creches
Hungary has seen a significant increase in creche capacity over the past decade, thanks to government measures aimed at supporting families and early childhood education. According to Robert Zsigo, a state secretary at the culture and innovation ministry, creche capacity has doubled since 2010, with 68,000 children now able to attend creches compared to 32,500 fifteen years ago.
Zsigo also highlighted the overall improvement in creche density across the country, with a creche now operating in every third settlement and in every district. This expansion has been accompanied by a substantial increase in the salaries of creche workers, which have risen by four and a half times during the same period. In addition to higher salaries, those pursuing careers as creche teachers are eligible for grants and other forms of financial support.
The government’s focus on improving creche infrastructure and support for creche workers is part of a larger effort to promote early childhood education and support working families. With more children able to access quality care and education at an early age, Hungary is investing in the future of its youngest citizens and setting the stage for their success in school and beyond.
