Hungarian Green Party Calls for Tighter Regulations on Battery Plants
The opposition party LMP has taken a proactive stance on environmental issues by submitting a motion to parliament to tighten control over battery plants in Hungary. The party’s national board leader, Örs Tetlák, emphasized the importance of holding these plants accountable for their impact on the environment and the health of local residents.
The recent incident at a battery plant in Komárom, where toxic substances were released into the air causing harm to workers, highlights the urgent need for stricter regulations. Tetlák criticized the current fines imposed on polluters as “ridiculously low” and called for penalties to be proportional to the plants’ revenues.
Furthermore, LMP is pushing for the closure of plants that repeatedly violate laws or pose a serious threat to the environment. The party’s motion aims to ensure that these facilities are responsible for their actions and take steps to reduce their negative impact on the surrounding communities.
It is expected that lawmakers from the ruling parties will support LMP’s initiative to strengthen oversight of battery plants in Hungary. By implementing stricter regulations and holding polluters accountable, the government can work towards creating a healthier and safer environment for all citizens.
