Hungarian Minister Announces Major Upgrades for Hungaroring Circuit

The Formula One Hungarian Grand Prix holds significant importance for Hungary, both in terms of public relations and prestige, as stated by the head of the Prime Minister’s Office on Sunday. Gergely Gulyás informed reporters at the Hungaroring paddock that negotiations regarding the future of the race have been mostly finalized, with an agreement reached with the commercial rights holder on necessary upgrades to secure the event’s place on the F1 calendar in the long term.
Gulyás highlighted the ongoing 105 billion forint (EUR 268.6m) upgrade at the Mogyorod track, emphasizing that while it may not be the most modern at present, the enhancements would ensure the race’s continuation for years to come. The full extent of the upgrades, as agreed upon with the rights holder, is expected to be completed by 2026.
The official noted that a majority of the 300,000 annual spectators at the racetrack are foreigners, contributing directly to Hungary’s economy as they tend to spend several days, if not a week, exploring the country. Despite concerns about potential ticket price hikes post-upgrade, Gulyás reassured that the aim is not to continuously raise prices, with the increased capacity of the facilities anticipated to generate substantial revenue.
The Hungarian Grand Prix at Hungaroring features a 4.381-kilometer circuit where drivers cover a distance of 306.663 kilometers over 70 laps. The upgrades are progressing ahead of schedule, with plans to resume work post-race and completion targeted for April 20, 2026.
