Hungarian Pentathlon Dominates in 2024

Hungary Celebrates Success in the Pentathlon at the 2024 Paris Olympics
The Hungarian Modern Pentathlon Federation (MÖSZ) is hailing 2024 as a monumental year for Hungarian pentathlon, with Michelle Gulyás clinching the gold medal in the women’s pentathlon final at the Paris Olympic Games. Gábor Balogh, President of MÖSZ, highlighted Gulyás’ victory at a press conference in Budapest on Tuesday.
In addition to Gulyás’ success, Blanka Guzi also made a significant leap from 17th place to finish fourth in the final of the combined event. Csaba Bőhm and Balazs Szép also performed well in Paris, finishing 13th and 10th respectively in the men’s race at the Olympics.
President Balogh emphasized that Hungarian pentathlon is experiencing unprecedented success in 2024. He praised Gulyás for setting a world record of 1,461 points, solidifying her place as an Olympic champion as equestrian events make way for obstacle course racing in the future.
Looking ahead, the federation is gearing up to transition to the new obstacle course racing discipline from September onwards. However, Agriculture Minister István Nagy expressed disappointment over the discontinuation of horse riding in the pentathlon. He lamented the decision by the International Union of Modern Pentathlon to remove the equestrian event, which has been a staple of the sport since its inception.
Nagy emphasized the unique bond between humans and horses in the pentathlon, describing riding as the pinnacle of the sport. He stressed that the harmonious cooperation between horse and rider showcased the value and unpredictability of the event.
As Hungary basks in the glory of its pentathlon success at the Paris Olympics, the country continues to celebrate the achievements of its athletes on the world stage. The legacy of Hungarian pentathlon in 2024 will be remembered for years to come.
