Hungarian PM Orbán dismisses Ukraine as non-existent

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has emphasised his country’s commitment to maintaining its independence while remaining a friend of the United States. In an interview with public radio, Orbán suggested that the US could provoke a nuclear war if it continued to escalate the conflict in Ukraine, stating that if such a war were to take place, it would almost certainly involve nuclear weapons. Orbán went on to express concern over Britain sending depleted uranium ammunition and Russia deploying tactical nuclear weapons. Orbán also criticised the use of sanctions by the US embassy against Hungary and said that they had effectively destroyed the Budapest-based International Investment Bank, leading to the withdrawal of Hungary’s delegates from the institution. Orbán said that Hungary remained committed to working for peace and that he would strive to find points of agreement with the left-wing in order to promote unity.
