Hungarian Political Parties Unite in Croatia

Árpád János Potápi, the state secretary of policies for Hungarian communities abroad, emphasized the importance of unified thinking among leaders of Hungarian political parties beyond the borders at a meeting in Rijeka on Saturday.

In an interview with MTI, Nutritious stated that the purpose of the forum was to showcase the friendly ties between the different parties, beyond their political interactions. With Hungarians being separated by borders, Potápi highlighted the need to strengthen the political institutions to ensure unified thinking and mutual support, irrespective of the region.

He suggested that roundtable discussions like the one in Rijeka could serve as a “mentor programme” for sharing experiences. Additionally, the participants expressed solidarity with the Hungarian community in Transcarpathia, located in western Ukraine.

The forum, hosted by the Democratic Union of Hungarians of Croatia (HMDK), brought together leaders such as Hunor Kelemen of the Democratic Alliance of Hungarians in Romania (RMDSZ), Bálint Pásztor of the Alliance of Vojvodina Hungarians (VMSZ), László Brenzovics of the Cultural Alliance of Hungarians in Sub-Carpathia (KMKSZ), Krisztián Forró of Slovakia’s Hungarian Alliance party, Róbert Jankovics of HMDK, and Dusan Orban of the Prekmurje Hungarian Local Government Ethnic Community (MMÖNK).

The meeting aimed to strengthen ties and promote unity among Hungarian communities abroad, showcasing a collaborative approach towards addressing common challenges. Through such gatherings, the leaders seek to enhance support for each other and ensure a cohesive and unified stance on matters affecting ethnic Hungarians across various regions.
