Hungarian Archaeologists at Egyptian Excavations

During her official visit to Egypt, Katalin Novák, a Hungarian politician, had the opportunity to meet with Hungarian archaeologists working on excavations in the ancient city of Thebes, which is now known as Luxor. Novák shared several photos from her visit and expressed pride in the work being done by the Hungarian archaeologists.

The Hungarian team has been excavating the Theban cemetery for forty years, initially under the leadership of Professor László Kákosy and now under Professors Tamás Bács, Zsolt Vasáros, and Zoltán Fábián. Novák’s visit to the excavation site was the final stop on her official visit to Egypt before she headed to the Climate Summit, where she was scheduled to speak.

At the Climate Summit (COP28) in Dubai, Novák delivered an address in which she emphasized the importance of a sustainable future and sustainable demography. She highlighted Hungary’s ambitious climate agenda, including the reduction of CO2 emissions and the country’s progress towards achieving renewable energy targets. Novák also addressed the issue of population decline and its relationship to climate change, poverty, and equality, calling for a shift away from a culture of fear and towards embracing life.

The UN COP28 conference was attended by 80,000 participants, including heads of state and government from 140 countries. Novák’s visit to the archaeological excavation in Luxor and her participation in the Climate Summit demonstrate Hungary’s commitment to both preserving history and addressing contemporary global challenges.
