Hungarian Prime Minister Believes Film Production Runs in the Blood of Hungarians
Prime Minister Viktor Orbán emphasized the importance of art and the film industry in Hungary during the opening of the National Film Institute’s new studio complex in Fót. He stated that film production runs in the blood of Hungarians, who have been involved in the industry since the early days of silent films and Hollywood’s inception.
Orbán highlighted the significant role Hungarian filmmakers played in the first half of the 20th century, as well as their contribution to expressing and enduring difficult times in the second half. He even acknowledged the impact of films made under communism in the downfall of the regime.
The Prime Minister also addressed the decline of Hungarian cinema after the regime change and the importance of the state’s involvement in developing the film industry. He noted the loss of revenue due to past film policies and stressed the need for government support in creating a thriving film infrastructure.
Orbán praised the late Andy Vajna for his contributions to revitalizing Hungarian film and emphasized the current success of the industry in attracting billions in service production spending annually. He pointed out that Hungary has now become a sought-after film production center in Europe, with world-famous studios like Korda, Origo, and Stern.
