Hungarian Tourists Favor Zanzibar and Oman as New, Exotic Destinations

Zanzibar and Oman are emerging as popular destinations for Hungarian tourists, especially during the New Year period. Interestingly, the number of people planning trips longer than a week has significantly increased. According to reports from World economy, there has been a decrease in pre-booked autumn travel this year compared to previous years. However, requests for offers during the Christmas and New Year’s Eve period have started earlier.

Due to the long and mild autumn, the start of the winter exotic holiday season has been delayed. However, as the winter clock continues to tick, end-of-year bookings are now picking up. Zanzibar is expected to see three times more Hungarian tourists celebrating the New Year compared to last year. Additionally, many people have already booked trips to Oman, which can be conveniently accessed through direct flights from Budapest.

These exotic destinations are mainly popular among adults and couples, while families with children tend to choose more familiar destinations such as Egypt, Turkey, and the Canary Islands. The volume of holidays booked during the autumn months has increased significantly compared to last year, with a growth rate of 27-48%.

During the colder seasons from October to April, Egypt, Turkey, and the Canary Islands compete with Zanzibar and the United Arab Emirates for the top spot. It will be interesting to see how Oman, the new hit destination this year, affects the ranking at the end of the season.

Most travelers spend around eight to nine days traveling during the autumn-winter period, with 76% of trips opting for all-inclusive or ultra all-inclusive packages. The choice of exotic destinations is not only driven by the mild weather, summer atmosphere, and longer days but also by the desire to escape daily routines.

The majority of travelers during this time are in the 40-59 age group, for whom such trips are a form of self-care and relaxation. Friday and Sunday are the most popular travel days, while Mondays see the fewest travelers.

In summary, Hungarian tourists are increasingly favoring Zanzibar and Oman as their preferred holiday destinations, particularly during the New Year period. These exotic locations offer a break from daily routines and provide unique experiences. While familiar destinations like Egypt, Turkey, and the Canary Islands remain popular among families, the growing interest in Oman could change the ranking of top winter destinations.
