Hungarian-Ukrainian Summit Approaching

Hungarian and Ukrainian Foreign Ministers to Meet in Uzhorod on January 29

If everything goes according to plan, the Hungarian and Ukrainian foreign ministers will meet on January 29 in Uzhorod, Ukraine to review issues of bilateral cooperation. Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó announced this during a press conference with his Montenegrin counterpart, Filip Ivanovic.

Szijjártó emphasized that the summit would only make sense if it could lead to significant results, and proper preparation is necessary. To this end, he and his Ukrainian counterpart Dmytro Kuleba are scheduled to meet in Uzhorod on January 29 to thoroughly review the issues and determine whether the high-level meeting could help improve relations.

Szijjártó expressed his readiness to meet with Andriy Yermak, the head of the Ukrainian presidential administration, but no date has been proposed yet. He called for avoiding a “bazaar atmosphere” on the issue of frozen EU funds, stating that the distribution of funds should be based on legislation and not political reasons.

The Hungarian foreign minister maintained that Hungary’s demand for EU funds remains clear and independent of any country wanting to join the EU. He concluded by urging the release of the EU funds due to Hungary.

The meeting between the Hungarian and Ukrainian foreign ministers is seen as an important step in improving relations between the two countries. Stay tuned for further updates on this developing story.
