Hungary Pledges to Preserve Heritage in Viticulture and Winemaking
Agriculture Minister István Nagy affirmed Hungary’s dedication to safeguarding its rich heritage in viticulture and winemaking during a conference held in Dijon on Sunday, commemorating the 100th anniversary of the International Organization of Vine and Wine (OIV).
Proud of being one of the 8 founding countries of the OIV, Hungary is committed to playing a significant role in addressing the challenges faced by the sector. Nagy highlighted the importance of the organization’s 2025-2029 Strategic Plan as a solid foundation for future endeavors.
As extreme weather events have increasingly impacted the industry in the past 3-4 years, Nagy stressed the need to ramp up research and innovation activities to enhance adaptation to climate change. He emphasized the importance of reducing chemical usage and introducing new species to improve sustainability in viticulture.
