Hungary and Cyprus Join Forces to Assist Persecuted Christians
Hungary and Cyprus Share Views on Peace and Immigration
In a recent meeting in Budapest, Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó highlighted the shared views between Hungary and Cyprus on important issues such as peace in Ukraine and strict action against illegal immigration. The two governments also signed an agreement on cooperation in the protection of Christian communities facing difficulties.
During a joint press conference with Cypriot Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos, Minister Szijjártó emphasized the need to protect the external borders of EU member states and tackle human trafficking networks to prevent illegal migration flows. He stressed that Cyprus, in particular, is facing a high number of first asylum seekers and that both countries agree on the importance of not encouraging migration flows.
Minister Szijjártó also expressed support for the peace efforts of US President Donald Trump and opposed energy sanctions that could raise energy prices in Hungary. He underlined the importance of allowing the Hungarian people to decide on Ukraine’s potential EU membership.
The two governments have signed a cooperation agreement in diplomatic training and the protection of persecuted Christian communities. Minister Szijjártó highlighted the responsibility both Hungary and Cyprus feel towards supporting persecuted Christians, especially in the Middle East. He mentioned humanitarian assistance provided to Christian communities in Syria and financial contributions to the renovation of Christian churches in Lebanon.
Minister Szijjártó commended Cyprus for openly supporting Christian communities in need and announced plans for joint support programs in the future. The partnership between Hungary and Cyprus in advocating for Christian values and supporting persecuted communities worldwide demonstrates their commitment to shared values and human rights.
The collaboration between Hungary and Cyprus on important issues related to peace, immigration, and the protection of persecuted Christians reflects a strong bond between the two countries.
