Hungary Changes Stance on Crimea’s Sovereignty in Ukraine
The Hungarian government has released a video on YouTube promoting the importance of a ceasefire and peace in Ukraine. The 29-second-long video highlights the grave consequences of war and the need for peace negotiations to prevent further loss of life. Interestingly, the video shows Ukraine without Crimea, which has been under Russian occupation since 2014. The Orbán administration has been vocal about its support for Ukraine’s territorial integrity, but the video fails to mention how ceasefire and peace negotiations should occur without further territorial losses. The government’s video suggests that Russia and the USA should negotiate peace instead of Ukraine and Russia. The conflict in Ukraine continues to be a concern for NATO member Hungary, which regularly emphasises the need for Ukraine’s independence and sovereignty to be protected.
