Brussels Faces Backlash as Hungary Proclaims Unjust Pressure
In a recent report released by Brussels, it has come to light that Hungary is being subjected to yet another attack. Despite the country’s compliance with all recommendations and its continuous engagement with the European Commission, the government’s information center (KTK) has accused Brussels of pressuring Hungary once again. The statement was made by the KTK in response to comments made by Vera Jourová, Vice-President of the European Commission for Values and Transparency, during the presentation of the EC’s 2023 rule of law report, covering all 27 EU member states. Jourová emphasized that despite some positive developments, Hungary still needs to make further improvements in areas such as the independence of the judiciary, corruption, and media freedom.
The Hungarian government, however, strongly asserts that it is being attacked due to its refusal to align with the pro-war stance of other European nations. Hungary stands firm in its opposition to the establishment of “migrant ghettos” and firmly rejects any plans that aim to abolish the utility price cut scheme. It also dares to ask the European Commission a pointed question: “Where is the pile of money that has been provided to Ukraine?”
This latest clash between Hungary and Brussels reveals a deepening divide on key issues, with Hungary defending its sovereignty and maintaining its own stance on matters of national importance. As the pressure continues, it remains to be seen how this ongoing conflict between Budapest and Brussels will ultimately shape the country’s future within the European Union.
