Hungary to Take Center Stage at South Korean Jazz Festival in 2025
In an exciting development for jazz enthusiasts, Hungary has been announced as the focus country for the prestigious Jarasum Jazz Festival in South Korea in 2025, following a partnership with Jazzfest Budapest. This collaboration highlights Hungary’s vibrant jazz scene on an international platform, showcasing its rich musical heritage.
The event is set to take place from October 17-19, featuring performances by renowned Hungarian groups such as the Dresch Quartet, the Bálint Diamond Trio, Skylark Metropolitan, and Miklós Lukács. This showcase promises to bring the unique sounds of Hungarian jazz to the forefront of the festival.
The partnership between the Jarasum Jazz Festival and Jazzfest Budapest began in 2024, paving the way for cultural exchanges that included performances by South Korean artists in Hungary and vice versa. Notably, the debut of the SINNOI and the Soojin Suh Coloris Trio before a Hungarian audience last year marked a significant milestone, along with the performance of the Nagy Emma Quintet in South Korea.
This year’s collaboration included a performance by the Gene Young New Trio in Budapest on May 4, and another South Korean band is scheduled to debut in Hungary this November at Jazzfest Budapest. Thanks to these successful exchanges, the spotlight will now shine on Hungary at the 2025 Jarasum Jazz Festival, which attracts nearly 80,000 visitors annually.
Additionally, the festival’s promotional imagery will feature the work of Hungarian graphic designer Zsófia Máhr, whose designs will grace the festival’s posters. The collaboration has received support from the Liszt Institute of Seoul and the National Cultural Fund, with ongoing efforts to secure further partnerships for supporting Hungarian bands in Asia.
As Hungary prepares for this significant cultural presentation, the Jarasum Jazz Festival offers a platform not only to celebrate jazz but also to foster international connections through music.
