
Hungary marks 25th anniversary of NATO accession with celebration – Exclusive Photos

Hungary recently celebrated the 25th anniversary of its accession to NATO, with Defence Minister Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky praising the alliance for guaranteeing the security of the Hungarian people. The ceremony, held at an army base in northern Hungary, highlighted the importance of NATO as a credible force capable of deterring any challenges that may arise.
Szalay-Bobrovniczky emphasized Hungary’s commitment to meeting NATO obligations by modernizing its armed forces with 21st-century compatible systems. The country also allocated 2 percent of its GDP on defense, with 20 percent specifically dedicated to the development of the armed forces.
Hungary’s active participation in international partnerships and missions, such as KFOR’s peacekeeping mission and protecting the airspace of neighboring countries, further underscores its commitment to NATO’s objectives.
In a separate event marking the 75th anniversary of NATO’s founding, Zsolt Németh, the head of parliament’s foreign affairs committee, highlighted the importance of a strong NATO for Hungary’s security. He condemned Russia’s military aggression against Ukraine and reiterated Hungary’s support for its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Németh also stressed the significance of NATO’s role in promoting peace and stability, stating that the alliance’s strength was crucial in deterring potential threats. He emphasized the need for strategic unity among NATO members and underscored Hungary’s commitment to peace, security, and the common good.
As Hungary continues its comprehensive military upgrade program and addresses challenges such as illegal migration, its dedication to NATO and shared values remains unwavering. The country looks towards a future of stability and security alongside its allies in the world’s largest defense alliance.
