House Speaker László Kövér Offers Condolences to German Counterpart
House Speaker László Kövér has extended his condolences to his German counterpart following the passing of Wolfgang Schauble, the former president of the Bundestag. Schauble, 81, passed away on Tuesday, prompting Kövér to send a heartfelt letter to Baerbel Bash expressing his sympathies.
In his letter, Kövér described Schauble as a “true friend of Hungary throughout his life.” He praised Schauble as a politician of great character, a humanist, and a man committed to open and earnest dialogue. Schauble, who also served as finance minister and the leader of the CDU party, was recognized by Kövér as an influential politician who was valued and respected by his opponents.
Kövér also highlighted Schauble’s role in the German reunification and his active support for the political regime change in Hungary and central Europe. He noted that with Schauble’s passing, Germany and Europe have lost an excellent politician, while Hungary has lost a true friend. Kövér also expressed his deepest condolences on behalf of the Hungarian parliament.
